Default Re: Updated the mufflers on my pickup

Rusted out mufflers is caused by condensation collecting in the muffler. When I got my '46 Coupe there was several areas "rotted" through on the bottom side, but the top was in good shape. The fellow at the muffler shop where I got the replacement, suggested I drill a 1/8" hole at each end, at the lowest point in the shell. That will allow and condensation buildup to drain out. Now the car marks it's spot with a small dab of oil on the floor and two small patches of dried exhaust soot. I'd have to question the quality of a muffler made of stainless that sells for $30.00. My wife bought a 12" stainless salad bowel that cost $45.00, and it is just a simple stamping. No internal piping or baffles.
