OT Tires
I'm looking for a set of "Red Line" tires for our '63 Avanti. I'd like radials however, I'd put a set of bias-plys on if I could find them. any of you know of a source (not Coker) for Red Lines? Also looking for a set of 700X16 www for our Zephyr. Thanks. |

Re: OT Tires
Vick. I have 4 700-16 wwhites. They came off a friend old Packard. I think they are Dedmans. They are just like new. They are 6ply. hard as a rock. I suppose they would look good on the rear of some nostaliga rat rod. Walt |

Re: OT Tires
Walt, Are the 700X16 good enough to run on our Zephyr or are they too old and hard? |

I've got several sets of Diamondback radial www. Not real happy with the white walls and, they told me that they have the Red Lines however they are applied to the tires (like the white walls), not cut in. Plus, I don't like the look of the LT radial in 16" for the Zephyr. Guess I'll have to go with the Bias-Ply for the Zephyr. I will keep looking for the Red Lines. Thanks. |

Re: OT Tires
You got an Stude Avanti Vic? I've only ever seen one of those down here in NZ. It was at a local car show a couple of years ago. I was mesmorized!! It was a champagne colour. A person I know has a R2 Stude Hawk,I think it is a 62/63. Had a full no expense resto. Those Studes are up there with Fords in my opinion GB |

Re: OT Tires
Vick. The tires are in good shape, no weather cracks. The tread is just a groove all around the tire. I think there are maybe 4 grooves. They just seem so stiff and they do say 6ply. I don't know why he took them off his pld Parkard. Probably wanted a softer tire. Walt |

Re: OT Tires
I agree with you, next to Flathead V8 Fords I like Studebakers best. Our Avanti is a '63 R-1, Champagne gold, with full factory installed power options. We had a '63 R-2 Supercharged Avanti but it got wrecked complements of an 80+ year old driver. We also have a '55 Studebaker President Speedster in our flock. |

Re: OT Tires
Walt, I had a set of Denmans (same tread) on a '48 Tudor Sedan when I was in High School back in the '60's. As I recall, the ride was not that good but, that could have been the car as well. |

Re: OT Tires
Nice "fleet" Vic. Those Speedsters looked away a ahead of their time. I once owned an English 61 Hillman Minx that had a wrap around rear window, sort of looked like a "stubby" mid 50's Stude. The resemblance was more than coincidental as it was designed for the Rootes Group ( Hillman, Humber, Sunbean, Singer), by the Loewy Studios. GB |

Re: OT Tires
Thanks Graeme, We enjoy all the cars. This April 14th we are driving the '63 Avanti from Tampa to Atlanta, GA. for the Studebaker Drivers Club East Coast Meet. We'll be going back to North Georgia again in June for the EFV8 Club Eastern Regional Meet. I hope to bring our '51 F-1 (If we can finish her in time) or our '39 Ford CS. |
