I know that it is not a Mercury 114, but check out this Canadian 1947 Monarch Convertible.
What a beautiful car.

Mercury from a car show in B.C. Canada in the early 2000s. Is it one of the 114 models?

Did they come from the factory with the chrome (stainless?) strip down the back of the door?

I don't know, but THAT car is approaching having TOO MUCH chrome on it just like the '58 Oldsmobile did. DD

The Twin Strips on the Fenders on this 1947 Mercury 114 Sedan Coupe are original, but not the red paint between them.

Yep. Now that I look closer, I see the "curb feelers". They are pretty high up on the "gee-gaw" scale.

As I understand it, and I'm quite confident on this, since Canada is quite a large country with a smallish population dealerships were kind of one to a town. So the Lincoln/Mercury dealership needed a lower price car and therefore the Meteor was born. Now in another town down th Ford dealership needed something more upscale and therefore the monarch was born. So RalpghG had is basically correct except for the geographic aspect defining the distance between dealerships.

Thats true. In the fifties you would not find both Lincoln Mercury dealerships and Ford Monarch dealerships in the same small town in Sask. GM and Chrysler dealerships , yes. Really amazing to recall the number of vehicle/machinery dealers we had in little towns of 500 or less population.

What a beautiful car.
There is something about the Monarchs that boggle my mind---the mix of Ford and Merc parts looks so odd to my untrained eyes. I wonder what the reasoning behind creating another brand was in the first place.
