New parts @#$%^&*!!!
Don't you have it when you buy all the new parts you need to do the job? I decided to upgrade my A to the new design exhaust and while I was at it add a progressive two barrel Holley. New nuts, cupped washers, gasket and exhaust port rings. All went well until I was tightening the nuts. The nut and washer are tight on the exhaust manifold and not even touching the intake. So I guess now my only out is to remove everything and take the high dollar exhaust manifold and have it milled to match the intake. Perhaps bore the nut clearance in the manifold a bit deeper. Wasted time and money caused by poor manufacturing.

As a side note, I just read today that the string of characters you put in your heading are properly called a Grawlix. I try to learn something each day.

Re: New parts @#$%^&*!!!
Are you using the new intake? The new intakes are matched to the new exhaust manifolds.

Re: New parts @#$%^&*!!!
It is not a reproduction intake. It is the aluminum one used with the Holley/Weber progressive two barrel.

Re: New parts @#$%^&*!!!
What i did was cut a piece of a washer that matched the difference in the flange thickness, cut it in half and weld or braze or tig it to the main flat washer, problem fixed.

Maybe the picture doesn't do it justice, but it looks like it's touching to me, just a little bit, at the very corner of the washer.
That was the idea of the conical washer, so it could cock and take care of that misalignment. I believe you could spend a few minutes with a die grinder and a burr and be good to go. Good luck! |

Re: New parts @#$%^&*!!!
I think the idea is when you buy new parts they should fit. who ever made them knows they are wrong. They should correct the problem.

Re: New parts @#$%^&*!!!
I had a ex manifold that was cut too much, I took washers and cut them in 1/2 to use as spacers under the thick washer ---I don't believe in cutting both together ---i only tighten the 2 bolts enough to compress the lockwasher after the manifold to block nuts are tightened ====the last manifold had a lot of space, thhe car loked real hot weather better that way

Or maybe grind down the thicker manifold to match the exhaust.

Re: New parts @#$%^&*!!!
I suspect that the manifold manufacturers assume you will be using headers. I have two versions of that intake on my cars and made aluminum C clips to secure the intake when using headers. I also use a grinder to make sure the "ears" are flat. This particular photo shows a Stromberg-Bendix intake.
