Back when I did telephone central office power inspections, ran across a power tech that put karo syrup on some connections to batteries causing problems. He swore it solved the problem. The only thing that came to mind is he coated the connection and prevented moisture and air from the connections! I have never tried it but it came to mind on your question. Start by cleaning all connections! All, not just the ones showing corrosion!
