Remove your email address in your profile and only allow replies thought the PM system here for first contact. With 0 post, he should not even have been able to contact you anyway? Ryan set things up to need 10 post before any contact can be made with seller or posting ads.

On the other hand, I don't find it odd for someone to ask for payment before shipping a part, or maybe I am missing something? Cash is king, if I don't know you, money order or Pay-Pal. If I do or at least someone has more then a few post; a check works too.
If I know someone, even by reputation, I have been known to ship before receaving payment, if I don't, no way till payment is in the bank and cleared.

Re the spring; The same outfit that makes the Model A springs make T ones too.

We have bought and installed a number of his A springs. Not exactly original but good springs.

A new scam to me.

A scammer is pretty evident, they always offer help in one direction or another. They usually have a heavy speech accent mostly Pakistani or the likes of. My usual tactic is to ask questions of them and converse as long as they are willing to continue. Simply, I like to waste their time and it mostly ends when they hang up on me or get angry with me. Sometimes I indicate interest but when they ask if I'd like their product I respond with “not really”. Sometimes they ask my address and I ask why. So I can send it to you. I say I don't want it. I know that's quite rude but never the less.
Sometimes I conclude by saying “the Gary you want is my dad and he was killed in a motor accident last week”.
It is possible to have some fun with these thieves.
Only this week I received a new approach. New to me that is. We can recover losses you have made on the stock exchange. When I questioned the fellow he said it was his job to help me. He appeared most helpful but I gave him there run around too.
A frequent call I get is from the tax department saying I have an outstanding account. I say “that is okay, just put a bill in the post and I’ll pay it”. Never get the bill of course.
Or my internet has been compromised and will be switched off if I don’t respond to this call (it's automated). I tell them to cut it off because I’m tired of it. It still continues to operate. Sometimes when a long discussion concludes I say “I think there has been an error”. They ask why and I tell them I don’t have the internet. That makes them very angry because I have wasted their time.
One caller asked if I would care to renew my prescription for Viagra. I explain to them just how much libido I have and how virile I am. I tell them I'll review their offer when I turn 90.
Could I speak to Mr Taylor please. No, he is on the floor and has been shot in the chest and there’s blood everywhere. I can hear approaching police sirens and it’s time for me to be out of here and I hang up.
A friend asks them to hold the line for a moment and he puts the receiver down not to return.
My wife Patsy gives them a reprimand. I enjoy irritating them. It’s fun. Try it.

On my email I have received notification from Eye Tech (whom I don’t know) to say my pay pal payment was successful. Another was from Mary to say she hadn’t heard from me for such a long time. I never respond to those emails and neither should you.

I got a text the other day supposedly from the Illinois secretary of states office wanting me to update me drivers license information. Yah, sure I'll get right on that.

1ton. My wife and I got a few of those renew texts. Not much privacy anymore.

I do require money before I ship a part. I used to take paypal, but now they have new policies and too complicated for me. I take USPS money orders or personal check.

I once sold a revolver on a firearms auction site. Later a man contacted me who had paid for the same revolver but never received it. It turned out the scammer had taken the pictures and description from my auction posting and used them to make an ad on a different web site. After not receiving the revolver, the mark did a reverse image search and found my auction. Unfortunately, not after he had sent $600.00 to the scammer.

Slightly off topic but here is my favorite scam story:

Remember the old "Nigerian scam"? You have something listed for sale and the scammer says they can only pay with a foreign check (fake of course)? For your trouble they will make it out for an additional $xxx. You keep the extra money.

Several years ago a relative was selling some computer server parts online for $2000. They were probably worth double that. Scammers contact him using the above tactics. Knowing it is a scam, he plays along and after DAYS of negotiations he agrees to ship the parts to an address in Kenya in exchange for a $2500 foreign check but the buyer must pay the freight and import duty COD. He also asks that they send the check Fedex.

A few days later, the check arrives. My relative takes an old box and fills it with heavy junk computer parts. They look impressive but are worthless. The package is nice and heavy so the shipping is REALLY expensive. On the manifest he lists the value at $5000.

So when the package arrived in Nairobi the scammers got to shell out some of their own cash to pay for the shipping, and import duty on $5000! Plus they already spent money on the FedEx. He figures the bad guys lost about a grand on that one!

Priceless
