Richard .....If you are talking about Gary O. Sharkey's (GOS fast) "Performance Engine Shop" in West Babylon, Gary unfortunately passed-away in late January of this year. DD

I was under the impression that he had a son that was continuing the business. Is that not the case?

That would be good to hear. Give 'em a try at:

The Performance Engine Shop in West Babylon, NY.

631-884-3278

Let us know the results, please! DD

I called the number you gave me, DD and spoke with Gary's widow, Helen. We had a very nice conversation. Indeed the machine shop is NOT in operation at this time. But she does have a considerable inventory(her words) of flathead parts that she wants to sell. She is in the process doing an inventory at this time. She said that anyone who needs parts can call the number you listed. You will go to voicemail but she will return your call. She did mine.

WOW.....neat that you got to talk with the lady. HER situation is exactly why I have seriously begun passing my stuff on. All three cars and some parts have already changed hands, with more parts to go in short order. Momma loves this old junk too, but she certainly ain't got a clue what a bunch of these parts are, much less what their worth may be, or how to reasonably pass it all on. DD

Yep. At this point, I'm keeping the old Fords and getting rid of anything I have to put my butt in before my feet.

I'm gonna miss that Corvette.

I think about the mess I will leave for my wife. Dozens of EVERYTHING from machine tools to Flathead blocks and everything in between. Maybe I am just too burned out to face the overwhelming task of downsizing? The cars and trucks would be reasonably simple. All the other stuff, not so much.

Well John, that's just it! That's exactly the situation I certainly don't want to leave my wife with. DD

You guys think YOU have issues . . . Hell, I'm not married any more, don't have any kids and no family for 1200 miles each way! LOL. Who the heck am I going to leave all this crap too??? Truth is, I have a lot of rare vintage race stuff - and there is really nobody in my family to even give it too (that has the time, garage space, etc. - it would just end up being auctioned off for pennies on a dollar). Even the cars - none of my nephews are into these old beasts, they don't know how to work on them, don't have garage space, etc.. So - I'm kind of the last of the vintage Ford and HotRod line in my family . . . Arggggh!

The runway is not as long as it once was and the fact is that I've collected a bunch of this stuff in the last 20 years - too much of it. So, I think I'll build a few vintage HotRod engines for friends or those people I think are cool and get some of this stuff the heck outta here.

Anybody want a bad-ass flathead? (Note, I don't build stock engines and I tend to work on the higher-end of the cost scale. Doesn't matter if it is for my own usage . . . or a friend, I have to do the best job possible and not worry about every dime . . .).

Oh Hell, better get with it . . . if I only had MORE damn TIME! LOL

That's about a year longer than I've had my '67.

OK. Now you guys KNOW that you ain't going anywhere until you have written down EVERYTHING you know about hot rods, flatheads, old Fords, etc. With pics to match. Even if you have to make up some stuff....

I know that might take a while, but it'll be worth it.
