Default Re: Engine Swap

The Mercury was introduced in 1939 with the first of the bigger 239 engines (Ford had a 221 cubic inch engine). Mercury had its own specific engine from 1939 to 1942. After the war, the Ford and Mercury engines were the SAME - all 59AB style productions - all 239 cubic inches.

Then (as Ken noted), in 1949 they put a larger stroke crankshaft (4.00") and a different piston in the Mercury cars to increase the cubic inches to 255.

From 1946 - 1953 the engine BLOCKS were the same between Ford and Mercury.
