Default Engine weight

Several times I have seen folks asking what an engine weighs. I've wondered that myself. So today I took an engine to a landscape supply company near me that has a state certified scale.
The engine was fully assembled with manifolds, carburetor, distributor, water pump, fan and flywheel. No oil in the engine.
The weight came to an even 400 lbs.
100 lbs a cylinder.

Pretty close to what has been in books,

Good to see actual measurements!

That's pretty much in line with the shipping weight of my engine. It, too, was complete as above except did not have the water pump or fan on it, but everything else.

In college, I could "squat" 427 lbs. in the weight lifting room. I guess that I should have used a Model A engine.
