Is it just me?
It’s starting to get cold up here in MA.
I have 180 stats. I recently opened the heater valve, on hose. Now that side of the engine seems run colder. Left side 170-180 and right side 160 or lil less. Or it has nothing to do with heater and that stat sticking open?

Re: Is it just me?
I’d say it’s because it’s going to the heater core......Mark

Re: Is it just me?
Two radiators on the right side will make it run a little cooler on that side.

Re: Is it just me?
I don't even have a heater and I run about 10 degrees hotter on the left over the right.

Re: Is it just me?
Billy yes heater side running cooler
Ok Gents thanks. I was leaning in that direction, however I also thought stat would close and bring temp up to 170-180.

Run heater on the left side to balance things out. 8^) billlybronco>>> don't even have a heater and I run about 10 degrees hotter on the left over the right.>>> Run a heater on the left side to balance things out. 8^) Jack E/NJ Oh-oh. |

Re: Is it just me?
Jack, that makes such perfect sense, just got home from a run to town in my 170 degree woodie and sitting by the woodstove warming up! Of course a shot of Old Grandad helped a bit....

minimum temp of around 180 on that side. You are correct that if you are seeing 160 or so, the stat is probably stuck open. An infra red thermometer should be used to confirm your temps. Ken |

Re: Is it just me?
By turning on the water valve you are allowing water to bypass the thermostat and return to the lower hose or water pump. Sounds normal to me.

Re: Is it just me?
The heater hose & heater core are tiny relative to the radiator hose and radiator. So I think the heater is somehow affecting the flow & temp in the immediate vicinity of the sender, maybe not a real good indication of what's happening at the thermostat or rest of the block and heads. Jack E/NJ

Re: Is it just me?
The thermostat does not necessarily see the same temp as the sending unit. I think the heater bypassing the radiator is the most likely cause but you do not have a problem.
