Default A head question

I'm overhauling a model A engine I acquired this summer. The serial number is not the regular number used on cars and trucks, so I assume it was a commercial engine. The numbers look to be factory correct. But the main thing that puzzles me is the head. It looks like a standard head but on the top, just behind the water outlet it has the letters "Model A" cast on it. Not added but cast with the head. Have any of you run across such a thing? I haven't. The combustion chambers look a little different, too. Your thoughts about what it is and/or who made it?
