You have to take the entire button / rod assy out of the column.Take off the light switch and there is a small horse shoe clip that keeps it together at base of steering gear.Remove the column drop cap screws and lower it.You should be able to pull the rod assy out.Once its out there are 4 prongs that are bent over .Straighten them and the ring should come out.

The job of removing that clip will be easier if you use a wooden yardstick to hold down the horn button/light switch rod at the steering wheel.

But you will probably have to remove the column drop, pull the entire steering gear and steering shaft loose and lower it before you can get the head room to pull the horn rod out of the shaft without bending it. Easy on a rag top but a bugger on a closed car.

Since you have a sedan, the lite switch rod should come out OK once you drop the steering column.
