Re: stuck 8BA
Using a 3" hole saw drill down to the first ring. break it out with a punch. drill down to the 2nd ring anf repeat, 34d as well. With the top rings removed piston shoule come out. This is kinda last ditch operation.

Re: stuck 8BA
Thanks for all the positive comments on this project, but I have to report that the block is cracked. One of the lifter bores cracked while knocking out the lifter.
But, all is well. I got two flathead motors, one with a transmission for free and at least one looks ok. The good one was bored .060 over and has a little ring groove at the top but no mouse damage or cracks. And I saved the crank and a set of rods from the bad motor so I can't complain. |

Re: stuck 8BA
Not to worry about the .060" overbore. I have taken 3 different 8BA's out to 3 5/16" (.125") over. The only problem we ran was a into a casting flaw in one cylinder on one engine. The machinist said it was minor and we could run it as is, but I had him sleeve that cylinder anyway.
The 1/8" overbore with a stock Ford crank yields a 258 ci engine (which is larger than a Mercury) and makes a nice engine. Just ask "Ol' Ron". |

Re: stuck 8BA
I have removed the tube that you're referring to,
Take a slide hammer, make an adapter with 1/8" pipe. This threads into the front of the tube. Tight, but not so much as to distort the tube. Have at it with the slide hammer. I've done three of them, without a problem. When you go back in with the replacement, make marks so the oil holes clock correctly. pressure test and magnaflux first. Pressure test plate is needed, so you can see around the valves and cylinders, transfer area. Also, in back of the inside where the valves are, pan rails and outside of the block. I use 30 lb. air. Spray soapy water. Look for bubbles. Seeing if the block holds air pressure does not tell me what I need to know. Karl Last edited by Karl Wolf; 08-19-2022 at 04:09 PM. |

Re: stuck 8BA
Did you call them? Those sizes may be what the stock, but I think they can make any size special order. If not, Ross can certainly make that size for you.
