They made a 24 stud and a 21 stud in '38. Which are you looking at?

It will fit. You will need spacers for the engine mounts. You will need to fab some top hoses. I have a 37 style Pilot motor in my 33, but do not run a mechanical fan. Others will need to advise re generator and fan.

21 or 24 stud shouldn't matter.

The spacer, or mount adapters that Mart refers to, are originally a Ford part number, intended for the switch you propose. The vendors have them, or, I have a pair that are available.
As for the fan, I'd make it like the 34. Look at height of gen mount - use 34 intake if necessary. On mine, I used a factory aluminum intake, with the correct height gen mount - I think it may have been from a 36.
I'd suggest using 34 exhaust manifolds.

I made my own, for my 59AB.

Using the original fan in the original position.

You can get the motor mount adapters quite a few places - one is C&G Ford Parts - the part number is:

41A-6023

As noted, you can run the stock 34 manifold and Stromberg 48 carb, with the stock generator, stock fan, etc.. All this will fit just fine and keep the engine looking 'close' to a 34. The water outlets will now be in the center of the heads, so you'll need to make some special upper radiator hoses - been done thousands of times . . . most of us use some sort of 'pipe' (stainless for example) in the middle.

Ignition: The 34 distributor (or 38) and wire looms should work just fine - so the ignition is not a big deal in the least.

Trans: There should be no problem except for the rear transmission mount. The 34 is a bit different than the 38. The 38 mount is probably a bit wider than the 34 (won't align with the bolt holes in the center frame section). When I originally put a 39 Trans in my 34, I cut/welded the solid 39 trans mount to match the dimensions of the 34 . . . was not a big deal.

If I am correct (help needed gang??), I believe you can buy a stock 34 transamission mount and replace the mount on the 38 trans and everything should just slip right in. You'll need to validate this.

All in all, it is a very straightforward swap, works well and is easy to setup.

Post some pictures and let us see your progress!

I just fitted a 99a engine (temporary) into my 33, I used the 33 inlet manifold and generator etc,I used the engine mount spacers from the vendors, but still had to put an extra spacer under the eng mount to get the crankshaft centreline inline with the crank handle guide.
Hoses are avail that make the installation look nearly normal.
if you want part numbers let me know.

If you are retaining the 34 trans, you would have to make sure you use a clutch no larger than 9". Anything bigger will foul the trans case.

The rear mount parts from any 32-36 trans can be used with the correct 33/34 rubber (available) to adapt any 37 up trans in.

Good point on the trans. If I remember right there are big problems with a larger clutch and 34 and under case..........Use the 38 trans.
