'32 Gas tank fuel pick-up unit repair
My '32 would not start, and I assumed the fuel pick-up unit was plugged with rust. Unfortuntely, I discovered that it had corroded in half after I pulled the gas tank. I had heard of this happening to others, but the last time I had the tank out (8-10 years ago), it was in good shape.
I can get all the parts out...is it possible to rebuild these things and replace all the tubing between the cups and the "bell"? I'd like to get the hydrostatic gauge working again. I've started looking for another, but I assume that they might be a bit gard to come by. Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have. |

Bruce you can repair any part of the sender. Consider it as plumbing fixture it is not some hokus/pokus mysterious part.It is only brass and copper parts with holes in it. The dome on the bottom and the size of the holes need to be like they were originaly. Sounds like a victim of the new gas. I have a new one that's not for sale but could give you dimentions if needed.Cars and P/U are the same, commercals with the tank under the seat are differant. G.M.

Re: '32 Gas tank fuel pick-up unit repair
If you have the overall length from the underside of the mounting flange to the very bottom of the fuel pick-up tube, that will help me. I've ordered up a bunch of brass tubing and sheet stock. The pieces I recovered out of the bottom of the tank basically disintegrated when I bead blasted them, so I'm starting from scratch about 1" below the lower cup.
Thanks. |

Bruce, These become available every once in a while on epay. I have purchased a one or two over the past 3 or 4 years. Hemmings also has them listed. Might check with Baxter Ford Parts. Good luck, Pat

1--air hole under bottom dome .046 2--small tube ID .080 3--vent hole near pinched end .125 I hope this will help you. I see the bent air tubes on the bottom vary a little. One set comes in straight and the other set is out at a slight angle. G.M.
