I have long wondered
Do all model A dipsticks have the F in the same location. I just change and add the oil from the 5 qt container and add until I reach the F but on different cars it seems to take more to reach the F

Re: I have long wondered
Only takes 4 1/2 quarts on a running engine. 1/2 quart is left in dipper tray.
That should be the end of story. If finger opening is distorted, reading could change up or down. I would add correct amount of oil and adjust dip stick accordingly. Enjoy. |

Make sure both ends of the dipstick are fully inserted in the hole - that means the short piece below the handle as well as the long piece with the F. |

Re: I have long wondered
Halfway between "L" & "F" is perfect, after the engine "dribbles" awhile.

Re: I have long wondered
Hey Harry,
You may have figured this out on your own, as I know that you've owned Model As and other fine old cars forever. I keep enough oil in the crankcase to register HALFWAY between the full and low mark. I think that that would represent a half quart. That way, if you have a engine with leaks or tends to leak, this leaking will lessen or quit somewhat....compared to running full or more with oil. |
