In the next month or so I intend to pull the dash on my 34 Fordor
My dash Needs painting and One of the instrument mount studs has broken off and needs fixing. While I'm there the wiring under the dash looks messy so will be easier to clean up with the dash off . i may replace my Glove box radio with an ashtray unit but I'm undecided currently.

The questions n is what is the easiest way to deal with the Throttle and Choke knobs . I assume that the rods won't just pull out with the dash if disconnected form the carburettor . I have found the connectors under the dash are they threaded or crimped on? Someone suggested I break the knobs off the rods and replace them after the new dash is in -sounds drastic , wrong and not where I want to go.

On 35-36 the choke and throttle rods each run through two grommets; one on the firewall and one on the dash. Cut the grommets off, you can then pull the rods all the way out. When you reinstall, fit new grommets. The grommets are split to allow fitting around the rods.

As with the '35-'36s, as Brian indicates, there's a grommet in the dash of '33-'34s and another in the firewall for each rod and once removed the rods can be readily pulled out from inside the car.

If per chance your car is a four cylinder, there are cables rather than rods and those are attached to the dash with chrome-plated escutcheons that are threaded on the back and held in place with large thin hex nuts with grommets only in the firewall.
