The water pump fan looks like it could be an original pressed steel type. Be sure to check it for any evidence of cracks developing or better still just replace it with a solid aluminium one.

Thanks. It was cracked and some welding done to it....new aluminum has been ordered.

Well, here we go.
Got all the wheels off. Took the drums off....they will all need to be replaced. Owner will be purchasing all new drums and hubs. Seems a normal "back in the day" process was if the lug bolts came lose.....you just weld them in place. The brake shoe lining will also need to be replaced.
Got the gas tank out and off to be cleaned and coated.
Took the carb off and found debris in there. Cleaned that out.
Pulled the fan to be replaced by and aluminum one and to get a new upper rad hose.
Drained the oil. Checked the fluids in the trans (pretty gooey stuff) and rear axle which looks good. Rear axle seals appear to be holding.
Cleaned and repacked the front wheel bearings.
Checked all the brake rods.
Need a few pills for the front brake rod to reposition the actuator to the 15 degree forward.
All in all not a bad days work.

Since we work on this one day a week for a few hours the updates will reflect this.

We now have the tank cleaned and back in. The wiring is being sorted out. We now have all the shoes stripped of the old linings and the backing plates are ready to be cleaned. PO had the speedo cable fed the wrong way since they had the gear on the torque tube facing the wrong direction.

Good progress.

New parts to be ordered/purchased are the brake rollers/pins, adjusting shafts/pins, battery cables, sediment bulb assembly and headlight socket assemblies.

Sorry for the long delay but we are back.

Finished up just about everything we intend to do to the car.
Put on the new 4 blade fan, all the brakes shoes and new drums are on and adjusted.
Trans is just loaded with what looks like molasses only thicker. Used some ATF in it.

Sorted out the wiring and in the process fried the pop out. We will "modernize" it some by using a wire and just the casing screwed into the distrib then get the later two pole switch wired to it. Headlights wired and working.
Horn, well a different story. The original harness and light switch body did not allow for hi beam. He had a newer body so we switched just the top half....that allowed the lights to function properly but now the horn rod is to short!

Put gas in the tank and a couple of turns and she fired. Took it off the roll dollies and backed it out of the garage. A few carb adjustments and we let it idle for about 15 minutes. No smoke, no leaks, just a pretty good running little A.
After the warm up pulled the trans drain plug but not much of the molasses came out. The ATF did so we replaced it with 600w oil. It's going to take some time and some runs and oil changes for that trans.

A few things to tidy up and it's back to the customer.

That was fun!

I really enjoyed your post on this fine looking A. You do such fine work, I wish I could look over your shoulder as you do the back brakes. The PO of my 29 A really messed my rear brakes up. But I bought the Vol. 1 and am reading it, and trying to understand how mechanical brakes work. Well I have rambled on long enough, But let me say Well Done Sir! Don in N. W. Indiana

There is a lot to mechanical brakes but just brake (pardon the pun) it down into small portions to work on.
If you have good original parts to work with, life is a whole lot easier that's for sure.
If not try to source them.

Do you have a Model A group in your are that may lend a hand?
