Re: Purchased my first A - 1929 Tudor
Even wrapping the wires with black friction tape and using black wire ties would help the looks of the wiring.

Re: Purchased my first A - 1929 Tudor
It's here! It's here!!
I really need help driving it. I am having a hell of a time getting the gears with out grinding them. Any pointers? List of questions: 1 - For some reason the foot starter switch isn't there! It has been replaced by a big button on the column. The outer housing of the starter pedal/button is on the starter but the plunger/foot button are not there. Where is the best place to buy that? Any thing to look out for? The car has been converted to 12V positive. Could that be why the starter button is gone? 2) The top needs to be replaced. I've mentioned this before. I think I'll go with the long grain per Tom's comment. L&B is the go to for this? 3) The rear of the top uses that hidem stuff. What's the right way to do that? Should I buy the metal trim piece and give it my best shot? 4) The radiator water is clear but the radiator itself looks... muddy. I put my finger in and swiped my finger on the inside and it came out pretty dirty. Is that something I should address or is that just the nature of the beast? 5) The dash and all of the interior trim pieces are primer. They aren't body color, wood grain or that brown/maroon color. I think the maroon is correct for a 29 Tudor. Where can I find the right color for that? Thanks for letting me share my new pride and joy! Ted Last edited by TRP; 07-12-2017 at 11:07 PM. |

I wanted to see if the paint would clean up.
What I started with.. Second photo is after a some compound. The third is after a little polish. Not to bad. Maybe there is hope for this paint yet. |

From third gear to second do the same, only when its in neutral rev it a bit,let it idle and engage clutch again and put it in second. First gear only when car is stopped. Beware the engine idles slowly, when the revs are too high the gears will grind. O........don't repaint the car,,,,it looks fantastic

Re: Purchased my first A - 1929 Tudor
Congrats Ted. Glad you got it home. The first time I drove my Model A, I thought what a piece of #%*€¥. I had no idea about double clutching, both up gears and down shifting.
Over the years I have become very comfortable with this method of driving as it has become second nature. My car taught me alot about myself, as I learned more about it. Challenge accepted! I wasn't going to let this piece of history get the better of me. Just remember when you drive the car, don't over rev the engine, or "lug" the motor in high gear at lower speeds. The babbit in the motor will thank you for this. Good Luck. Jeff BTW. The colour scheme looks dawn grey/chelsea blue.

I wonder if filling the straight piece of the trim at the areas to be bent with lead before bending would prevent buckling and then melt out? Always wanted to try - just waiting on a scrap piece of trim to show up. John |

Nice colors and nice looking car.
Back in the first posting, what is the large round thing under the bottom of the radiator shell? |

Re: Purchased my first A - 1929 Tudor
Hey Tom,
I think thats an artifact of the odd perspective of the photo. The round thing is actually an aftermarket blinker and it is mounted closer to the bumper bracket. Here is a better shot of what the rear looks like: Here is a closeup of one of the lenses (I rotated the camera so we could read the logo). I think they were made in Dayton Ohio? If anyone knows anything about them, I'd love to learn. |
