Those came in a couple of different ways. Some bolted to the tie rod,and the loose ends skidded along inside the hollow of the axle. Some bolted to the axle, and the loose ends slid along the tie rod.The loops on the one you have suggests that type, but the fixed end doesn't look big enough to fit the axle, then again,it may just be the picture. Both types tear the paint up pretty good.

I can't tell if you have the whole thing but I have one and the bracket clamps right over the axle and puts pressure on the tie rod. This helped some on gravel roads where the car would shimmy. The shimmy occurs on what they called wash board road and was described to me as one front wheel getting forced slightly ahead of the other because of the straight axle design. I don't know if it is correct but I do know that it will violently shake the steering wheel and car. I ran one of those for awhile on old roads and it seemed to help some. It is getting hard to find wash board these days.

Suunybrook: thanks. We still have washboard roads here. They are out of the way and you would have to look for them but they are around.
