1940 mercury front fender aprons to frame fasteners
How are the front fender aprons attached to the frame. It looked like there was a rubber bumper holding them on when I removed them. Is that correct and if so where can a buy some. I can't find anything on third generation auto's website

I have a 39 Mercury I can look at tonight BUT I don't recall any "rubber" grommets or bumpers you speak of

If they are like to the Ford the rubber bumpers are at the bottom of the panel next to the frame. They are there to stop the panel from rattling against the frame.

My '41 Merc uses the same bumpers at the panel bottom. When old and hard they really rattle. I used some like these... https://cgfordparts.com/upper-door-b...7023020-b.html Terry

In early '39, the inner aprons had a 90° bracket at the very front that was fastened to the top of the frame rail. By 1940, the two places at the brake hose opening had rubber bumpers as described in a previous thread. In early '39, two hex head bolts were installed through the apron and on into the frame in this area. Shortly thereafter, this was reduced to one bolt and shortly after that, no bolts, just the rubber bumpers. A 1940 Ford had a cross brace near the front that fastened to the aprons. I'm not certain how Mercury dealt with that area.
