Do you have an exhaust on the tent & better yet run it outside. Lots of fumes & you have a wood fire.

BoB,
At this time I do not have a exhaust fan. I have in floor heat only.

Mark,
A 1954 Allis-Chalmers model CA. This will be a old tractor freshened up for pulling when completed. It will be in the 2,500 or 3,000 lb classes in our area. A project I started a couple years ago.
When I brought it home:

A few of the CA parts cleaned, repaired, primed, and painted. Maybe about 50% complete:

John Kelley has helped me clean a lot of these parts. And work on the engine. The Head and crank were in the machine shop for a year.

Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

Mark,
John does a lot. I try to do the degreasing and he does a lot of the rust removal on parts.
We worked on the small nuts and bolts and hardware today. He has been keeping me moving forward on the shop projects.
May be able to mix some paint next week.
Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

Folks,
I picked up the repaired truck tire yesterday. It's holding air. The valve stem had been ruined as I had driven the tire while flat. I asked about the old flap. They said there wasn't any flap. I was surprised. Same shop put these together. Humm. Well we move on down the road with the old truck.
Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

Ford V8 floks,
Yes its been a while. The 32 had not been started in months. I jumped in the other day and almost forgot all the moves to get it going. After finally flipping the switch to the on position it really helped!

We are still cleaning up the equipment from our maple syrup season. It was fun, glad its done!
Hope things are good in Ford Land!
Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

Chris I have also missed 'visiting' with you and your family at the old sugarworks. It has been a memorable trip watching what you and John and others have done to get your '32 up and running under it's own power. I'm sure I speak for others here when I say that the way you write and the way you include details and photos of not only your shop buildings, but your extended family and friends (and tractors) adds another dimension to our fordbarn forum. In other words, please stop by more often and keep us informed and entertained. And yes, get that ragged ol' 32 out when the ice breaks up and take 'er for a spin. Don't forget we like pictures! GB

Chris,

Spring is here and it is time to think about registering for the Central National Meet in Springfield, IL. June 22-26. We hope to see you, Cheryl, and the ragged ol' truck!

Ken

Ford guys,
Great to hear from all of you! We did go for our first ride in the lil red Comet last night. The temps are still cool, the ice cream was good, the heat in the car was welcome on the short trip home from downtown Albion.

John was out in his 46 Ford today and he said it starts as good or better than his other cars! Was good to see him on the road with it. He is planning several small projects in the shop this spring. Including oil changes.

Cheryl supervised me as I put the head and timing cover back on the Allis-Chalmers CA engine the other night. After degreeing the cam we are now back to where we were months ago. I think that is progress. But not sure? We did learn some things.

Our syrup season is over. We have cleaned all our sap lines and have 2/3's of our maple tubing gathered up, and plan to bring the balance home tomorrow. Cheryl enjoys riding in the truck and listening to 60's music.

Will try to get the 32 out for an ice cream run soon also. Not sure will be able to make the show in Springfield this year. We have had several years of enjoyment visiting with Early Ford V8 friends.

Yes we listen to Billy Joe Shaver all the time!
Hope things are good in Ford Land.

Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

Glad to hear the 32 is being woken up for another season. I really enjoyed visiting with you, seeing the 32, and taking the truck for a spin in the parking lot last summer at the meet in Auburn.

Folks,
The 32 has not made it out of the shop yet but that doesn't mean we cant get photo ops.
Here is my cousin Don in the truck. I think he liked it too.

His recommendation was to
a) not fix the rusted passengers side door bottom
b) clean it up good and spray it with clear.

I agreed on keeping the patina on the rusted out door bottom, but I do not plan to spray the truck with clear.

What is your opinion on patina and clear coat finishes?

Next is a local guy, Randy that happens to be Don cousin too. Randy hopped in the truck for a static picture also. Randy has a 56 Nomad that Don restored for him. We will try to get some pictures of Randy's car this summer.
(FYI Don has been working as a car restorer for years!)

We had a great visit and solved most of the worlds problems.
I will get the 32 out soon, I promise!
Regards,
Chris

I, for one, agree with you on the 'no clear" decision. I will accept "patina" on a well preserved original, but I believe it is the "lazy man's way out" in a lot of cases. What I do find objectionable is artificially applied patina.

In my opinion, you're doing right by your truck.

Tubman,
I can relate to the lazy mans way out!

Well we finally got the 32 out for a drive. We drove down the road to see our great grandson Rhett, he turned 10 today.

The rest of the boys with Cheryl in the 32:

We took a couple mile ride after visiting. It took 90 years to get to this mileage. Just had to capture it:

Cheryl said she liked the old truck!

Chris and Cheryl

There is moisture in rust. Spray it with clear, you trap the moisture in, rust continues to do its deed. To get rid of the moisture, we are talking sand/grind/replace metal/prime/paint.....I know we aint goin there !

gibbs oil is a popular thing, I've not used it, but at this point in its life the truck has a cushy life in a dry garage, seldom any real threat of continued moisture problems, it'll make another 90 years without messing with that door

Exactly the way I feel about it. No clear (pro car painters can try to let go of their coating, but they just can't). No oils. I have had several trucks with rusted out door bottoms. Kept dry the rust goes no further. All my old trucks stay dry under a roof and I seldom drive them in bad weather. That's what my modern '90s trucks are for. And Denny, you know I'm not lazy!
