'50 Ford trivia buffs- attention
hopefully someone knows the answer to this: On the title to my 1950 ford, the serial number starts out as "DMP...", yet on the actual firewall data plate, I could swear that it starts out as "OMP..." Does anyone know which would be more accurate; the DMP or the OMP? I want the title to be correct. Thanks ya'll. |

It's supposed to be 0 (zero) MP. The first digit is the last number in the year of manufacture. |

and we have a winner..
Doby, thanks! Even though I was afraid of this... I suspect it gonna be pretty difficult to get the DMV to change it... But thanks again! |

From THE 1949-50-51 Book: "...Contained in the serial number is the Engine type, Model year, Plant which assembled the car (1950/51 only) and the numerical sequence of assembly." So, what you have is "O"=1950 and "MP"= Memphis. There should be an "H" or "B" prior to OMP which would indicate a six)H) or an eight(B) cylinder engine;ie., BOMP. Hope this helps. Ken |
