Yep i bought a large box of helmet condensors at a auction once, 95% wouldnt pass the condensor leakage testing . Although these were new in the box i think they either dry out or attract moisture but very seldom check a nos unit that it will pass testing....

I've seen a few NOS ones on eBay for $10-20 each, I just laugh when I see that.

Nobody has talked about the G factor the most important parameter for a capacitor. This is the internal resistance of the capacitor. The industry uses different methods to measure this value. The G value is either the series or parallel resistance at an established frequency 36fordguy

Capacity, leakage, and resistance are the normal tests for most caps. I haven't heard the term G factor in relation to resistance but I wasn't trained to test all types of capacitors either. It seems like it is the quality of a capacitor at operating frequency or is that Q factor. I forget a lot of the electronics training I've had. Been too many years.

Know what the "G" spot is, but I never heard of it in relationship to capacitors. I'll check with my EE buddy and see what he has to say.

Bubba:
I have the Perry Davis Ignition -Coil and- Condensor Tester you recommend. I can test Condensor fine. However, would it be possible to test a Coil on the bench with this unit? If so, would you let me know how it would be done! Thanks very much.
