Paint now days can get as high as 500 bucks a gallon or higher if you've a mind for it but that would still keep the paint at an affordable cost. Paper and tape are still inexpensive. Fender welting would be in there somewhere. A lot of sand paper and grit blast supplies. Now the rust thats under that cherry and possible wood & top work might be another thing but considering it to all be good would put a paint job at around 2K for stuff and a way lot of elbow grease if you are a DIY kind of guy.

If the current paint was well done, it could be resprayed with just a complete scuff down and a color that would cover that red. That could save enough time & money to where a guy could be driving it around fairly quick. If you have to tear it all apart, it would take a way lot longer.

I purchased one car that was off color and I found all the imperfections in the body pretty quick. I ended up restoring it due to all that. I just figure on restoring them now. The main thing is finding one in your price range that has all the parts and they are all still usable. It sure saves a lot on the restoration. They will nickel & dime you to death otherwise. I could never afford to have someone else restore a car. I've seen some of those guys take a week just to re-adjust the door gaps and crap like that. No offence to restoration guys out there, I just can't afford ya.

Rotorwrench your about right, $2000 + and a lot of your own work units (which are free), and still paying $35,000 for it?????? and the interior still isn't right either. As for restoration shops, there are many out there that "CLAIM" they are restoration shops but are nothing more than a glorified paint and body shop. From experience......I don't care what someone is charging per hour as long as I feel/ or see I'm getting that value back in there production, for MOST that never is the case. Unfortunately the car hobby for me has been the whole time continuum and the money continuum. When the time continuum is at its highest, I have no money! When the money is at its highest, I have no time! Funny how that all works.....

Reminds me of Burgess Meredith in the Alfred Hitchcock episode of "Time Enough At Last"

Good one GSCOV, I wonder how may people remember that or know what you mean.
