Default Coil Wire

Noticed that my high tension coil wire ( 47 flathead 6V) has a butt connection between coil and distributor. I’d like to replace it. I’m not familiar with the rubber boot that it enters on distributor side. How do I access the connection and what type of connection is it?

The old Packard coil wire was the best. I think it is still available. G.M.

Always have trouble posting pics. The high tension wire goes from bottom of my old style coil into a rubber boot that is in line with the metal tube with plug wires. Apparently this is where it connects to distributor. I want to replace the coil wire but can’t figure out how it comes apart. I’m trying to troubleshoot no start issue which I believe is a weak spark. I have cleaned the ignition switch and I measure about 5.4 volts at coil when switch is “on”. I don’t want to just start replacing parts. I am going to try jumper from battery to coil to rule out bad switch. Car runs perfectly… when it starts.

It's possible that "butt" connection is a radio noise resistor
--black cylinder that the wire screws into about inch and half long

Took resistance measurements on the coil. 0.6 -0.7 ohm low side and about 8500 on high side. Is this in the ballpark? Like I said, 5.4 volts reading at battery side of coil with ignition switch on. Guess the next thing I’ll try is direct wire from battery to coil.

The resistance of the 6v coil appears ok. However voltage at coil is normally in the 3.5v to 4v at coil going through a resistor.

Replaced ignition switch. Still not starting. Guess I’ll try replacing condenser. Could it be the resistor on inside of firewall? How can I test that?

thats easy just with a jumper wire jump the two wires on the resistor. Or just jump battery power direct to the coil with jumper wire. Try that, won't hurt anything for a short time test.
