Just keep in mind that actual coil output voltage varies. A coil will only put out the voltage necessary to jump the spark plug gap. When the points open and the primary field collapses, the voltage induced in the secondary windings rises until it is strong enough to jump the plug gap. Thus, if only say, 5,000 volts is needed to jump the plug gap, 5,000 volts is all the coil produces. When you go to wide open throttle, cylinder pressure rises and so the voltage requirement also rises, maybe to 15,000 or 20,000 volts. If the plug gaps are badly worn, the coil secondary wire has a break, if you have a high compression head or a turbo/supercharger, voltage requirements will go higher. But I don't think a Model A would ever see the need for a 50,000 volt coil.

Sometimes its not necessarily what is needed . It can be what is wanted that has worked very well for me . I'll say that the Flame thrower coil was probably the best forty dollars that I ever spent for a performance part .

Peertronix recommends increasing the gaps at the spark plugs, With the flame thrower coil , says it on the box that it came in . A wider hotter spark , better sets off the charge !!!

And therein lies the secret to getting better performance from a high voltage coil: Being able to run a larger plug gap!

While you're at it get yourself some W-18 plugs, open up the gap some, use the "B" distributor cam for more dwell and the flamethrower 40KV coil for some added spark, not to mention some real snappy starting----works well for me!

I had one quit about 15 miles out of Kanab, UT last October. I don't know what went wrong with it but you can find it in the desert out there about 20 feet from the road.

No , it doesn't say how much to increase the gap . I usually start with a gap of thirty five thousands at the rotor tip . I have ran a gap of forty five thousands .
