1946 "F". Block
I am going to look at a 36 coupe. The add says "The block is a 1946 "F". It looks like a 59AB, but it has a factory 4 inch stroke and 3 5/16 inch bore. This is not the Mercury crank, but a ford factory crank......very hard to find. Not only that, the block was factory ported."
I have no idea if this is accrate or what. Does anyone know anything about these engines? Also, how could you identify one? Thanks, Scott |

No, it's not accurate cause it never existed as factory.

Re: 1946 "F". Block
The 59L block is a good factory engine. I have one. However, the one I have has a standard 3-3/4" stroke, 3-3/16" bore NOT the bore and stroke you indicated. It also has a factory relief.
My understanding this engine was a late WW2 issue and ultimately found its' way into standard '46 production after the War. The block itself is suppose to have a higher nickel content which contributed to its' hardness and its' ability to withstand a 3-7/16" bore better than the standard 59 engine. Needless-to say, these engines are getting hard to find! Tom |
