Emissions test here in Georgia for vehicles 25 years old or less, also a milage waiver for seniors that drive very little. Heavy duty trucks 3/4 ton and larger also don't have to have emissions tests.

In Hawaii there is a yearly safety check regardless of the year of the vehicle, cost is $20.

In France ,vehicle's with a normal title its every 2 yrs-cost $66 Euros.Very rigorous.Even tire brands cannot be mixed / matched from front to rear and over 10 yrs old rejected. Collector car titled vehicle - no safety check.

but yet most crashes is from distracted drivers. phone, texting... ect. I drive with full awareness of my vehicle and can also change a tire if needed. I know because I've helped others do so.

I never worry, even in a new vehicle, about how i drive, i worry about the others.

I agree but it would be nice if the other guys had a car that was in safe condition and was not going to swerve onto my side of the road when his steering arm fell off -Karl

All very interesting guys, I laughed at 50fordcoupemans post on carrying insurance for uninsured people. We had a similar thing here in NZ . The govt. figured it was missing out on road tax on small diesel vehicles through people diconnecting their speedos or other means, so what did they do, put the tax up so that honest people pay. And they think this is fare. Cheers Tony.

Here's a link to New York's requirements, vehicles over 25 years old don't need the emissions inspection.
