Default 1935 Ford brass column drop

I purchased a column drop for a 1935 Ford. When I cleaned it up I discovered it was solid brass. Is this normal?

I've seen one out of a 40 coupe, that was solid brass, an its the only one i have seen, until you posted your picture.
