He was very lucky using that stud removing tool. I use something everyone has plenty of when removing studs! Double nutting!! Two nuts run down on the stud, tightened against each other, then use your favorite tool for removing nuts. If you want to buy a stud removing tool, one that works like double nutting threads down on the stud works much better. The heating and oil saved him from snapping off the stud!

Yeah, repeated heating and cooling exspans and contracts the bolt and hopefully fatigues the threads...
