Default crab dissy rebuilds

Hi guys, Winter here nothing broken on my pickup so am rebuilding some spare dissys so a couple of questions. Do you soak the shaft in oil to soak the wick that lubricates the outer bush? Whats the best spray lube to use when reassembling. Are the aluminium body's better/worse than the cast iron?
On the vacuum brake pipe I have a piece of rubber tube that I can clamp with pliers, when I do this I can hear the brake clicking, so obviously working but it makes no difference to the running of the engine. Does this mean that I need to tighten the brake adjustment more. On my test mule engine I have a pilot distributor which makes a huge difference when the advance brake is clamped off. Thanks in advance. Tony.

Suggest you remove the oil wick inside the shaft and clean it before relubing by soaking wick in MMO. Both bodies are good just a matter of personal preference. With USA gas rated 87 octane, the adjustment for the brake is all the way out (by hand) and then in about 1-1/2 turn in. If there is no change (vacuum or not) look at the advance weights and mechanism, make sure they move with ease. lube the vacuum brake piston with MMO. look for vacuum leaks around the vacuum brake hex where it screws into the body. If you find a leak you can remove the adjuster and add an O-ring under the hex.
