Ford contract suppliers
Can anyone provide any US & Canadian company names of some of the many contract suppliers to Ford in the old days?
Not just well known ones such as Briggs or Firestone, but companies such as Owens [ glass], Alhegany Ludlum [ rustless/stainless steel] & Eureka Planter, Ontario [ forgings]. Thanks. |

Re: Ford contract suppliers
I have always been interested in Henry's parts suppliers ie, their history, and what parts they made etc etc. Some of them are just as interesting as Ford Co itself.
I know about some, eg, (Albert) Champion makes interesting reading, Zenith was French originally & Houdaille too [Ferrari's used them]. King Seeley gauges, Mr Holley was a friend of old Henry as was Firestone etc etc. Apart from the tyre companies and other big ones, some of those names in the list I have never heard of eg, Emanuel Aufiero, Welker-Hoops etc etc. These may be well known in the USA but not overseas. I am surprised Henry used GM trucks--for instance. Can anybody add anything to those names? Thanks Manuel in Oz |

Re: Ford contract suppliers
I found a Pittsburgh Steel emblem dyed into the metal after stripping the paint from my door, so Pittsburgh Steel.

Re: Ford contract suppliers
Auto Specialty was one of the makers of the jacks. I drove by the plant near Benton Harbor, Michigan in 1971 or 1972 and the workers were outside picketing. That was the end of that plant. The remnants of the plant still stand and the parking lot has long been overgrown with weeds.
