LAST throwback Thursday

Well
Nobody seems interested so I will empty my first magazine of "Throwback Thursday" pictures and call it a day.


Pic #1 & 2 Was a 37 Cabriolet that my dad somehow found out about just north of here across the state line in Georgia. He went three or four times to try and buy the car and the fellow would never seem to give a price or seem interested in selling. The fifth trip up to try proved to be TOO LATE!!!!
Pic#3 Dad and his "running mentor" came upon this 40 that the owner stated he parked there just a few months ago.


Pic #4 Was a call from a friend who told my dad that someone just rolled a 34 sedan delivery out the trash for the the city to haul off for junk. After hotfooting it up to the northside of town, here was said 34 Sedan Delivery!!


Hopefully "someone" enjoyed a jaunt down memory lane!!

Man those pine trees grow fast. I have enjoyed seeing your old pictures. I was in the Jacksonville area from 1968 to 1971, but I don't remember seeing any old cars around. Guess I wasn't looking in the right places.

There were plenty around, like you say, you must have not bee looking very hard!! That is the time frame of the majority of what I have posted. My dad's problem was the ability to "up" his ante in the "game", had he gone from $100-$400 to $500-$1000 he would have been miles ahead of the "quality curve" BUT you do the "best" you can with what you have, right. By the way I forgot this one he found for $50 and he and another buddy got it running!!!!

I also wasn't getting paid very much then either or have a place to store a car. I like the dog in the last picture taking advantage of the shade under the car.

VERY common story and position, my friend!!! Dad was exactly the same spot!! BUT He tried hard bless his heart. AS you see

Yes it did. I was stationed at Cecil Field. I remember my time there fondly. I also remember it can get pretty darn hot in the Summers.

Was the 37 Cabriolet scrapped or sold to someone else?

NO, not "it can"......"IT currently IS!" as you know the Navy in their "infinite" wisdom shut down Cecil, the ONLY Master Jet Base they had east of the Mississippi River as they "didn't need it!". SAD day. Now it has been "re-developed into a air/business/industrial center and houses the Southern Sector for DEA air surveillance. PLUS the development between there and town is "tremendous"!!

Neat pics & story. I should have taken a picture of a early 40s Lincoln a friend showed me in the mid 60s.
It was in a woods in Marblehead Ohio with a tree between the front bumper & L F fender.
I think it was stainless steel as some of the paint was gone & NO RUST...???
It & another car there vanished within a month & we never heard any more about them.

I think that tree behind the front bumper is an old timey anti-theft device. Remove front bumper, park car against tree, reinstall front bumper.
