Default 1936 Headlight Switch

I am trying to set up my headlight switch at the bottom of the steering box on my 1936 ford. I noticed that the rod that comes down (through the steering post) from the horn is flat.
I do have continuity to make the horn work BUT it has no groove to lock the "C" clip into at the bottom. What do you suggest I do to repair it?
Thanks

The rod should be round and has a wire inside the total length. You might want to find another horn button rod assy.Post a pic of yours.

the rod is round and I do have continuity from the horn button to the brass contact at the bottom. What holds it to the spring if there is no place for the C clip to connect to. How do I repair it?
Thanks for the quick reply.

See attached horn rod detail drawing showing the end of the rod and the indent where the clip goes.

I just replaced the wire on my 39 pickup. It was a real pain as the wire has to be drawn tight between the button at the top and the contact at the bottom. It would be easier if you can remove the rod from the steering column. Barring that, be prepared to be under the car several times to pull the wire tight and solder the wire to the contact several times.
