Default Frame Assembly at the Rouge circa 1934

Here is a great shot of the frame assembly process at the Rouge plant in 1934. There is a lot to study in these old pictures, the process, the men, the environment. Check out the trays of rivets.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing.

Wonder what the press in the background was used for? Punching holes?

Likely to set the rivets the workers in the foreground are whacking into place. This was a workplace station that was very hard on one's hearing.

They had a wooden floor to stand on which is good for working long hours.

Had wooden block floor at PWA (Southington) in the assembly areas. When it got s l o w we would pull used safety wire out of the blocks. FWIW

Had a wooden block floor in EH (experimental)
Favorite pass-time, silver solder a nail to quarter, hammer into floor then watch the fun,

Don't show that picture to OSHA , they will fine ford with interest.

I worked in an old AO Smith factory that supplied frames to ford and GM. We still had a dirt floor in parts of the factory. I guess it really wasn't dirt any more. It had soaked up so much hydraulic and cutting fluid.

Thanks for the picture.
