Marsden Locknut Torque Specs

I looked in my service manuals and searched the internet and can't find torque specs for the Marsden locknuts, that are used on backing plate bolts and shock link nuts on my '46 Super Deluxe. Any one have a chart or link?

Torque values are determined by thread size, thread type & thread material. It can also depend on the desired clamping force. I don't think the nut style is much of an issue.

You won't find any torque values for Early Fords, use a modern chart. I would use Grade 8 hardened washers between the bolt and backing plate. If the factory bolts are long enough? Regular washers are soft, eventually the bolt head will sink into the washer and your backing plate will be loose. If you use grade 8 bolts be sure to use grade 8 nuts.

One problem is you do not know what grade the Early Ford bolts are since there were no SAE standard identification marks until 1956. I always assumes that anything that is brakes, steering or suspension should be grade 8 unless you have the factory bolts. Then I was use those for restoration purposes.

Marsden nuts are lightly recessed on the clamp up face in order to get the squeeze on the top rim of the nut. It acts in similar fashion to a collet. They function with normal torque per SAE charts or aerospace charts depending on the application, bolt size and thread type. A lot of them are grade 8.
