Yes, mines real fancy. A piece of cardboard but I don't have a picture of it. :-)

Re: lets see your winter front grill.
So, does a winter grill cover do an effective job of increasing the engine operating temperture? Is it necessary if thermostats are installed?

Cardboard up front of the grille or against the radiator was standard winter driving technique here before the fancy, store bought winter fronts were available.

Denny, That pic was taken January 1961 in Westborough, MA. Roadster was entered in show in Boston and driven back but not put in garage. Weather forecasting was not very good back then, hence the reason I live in Florida. By the way it was 36 degrees here this morning.

Re: lets see your winter front grill.
Here's the front of my car in the winter, but without a winter front grille . I don't drive during the winter once the roads are covered with salt, as they are right now.
The second picture doesn't show a winter front grille either, but with that rig it should probably have one

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.

Re: lets see your winter front grill.
Not for my truck, not even for an early v8. Looks a little small for a 28/9 model a. But it's pretty cool. If the mechanism was modified for a cable operation it'd be really cool

Re: lets see your winter front grill.
Working around the Merc this morning and remembered this thread about winter fronts. So here is mine. Nothing fancy. Just a piece of John Deere cardboard. Actually a piece of carpet is more desirable as it is not so hard on the radiator fins.

Re: lets see your winter front grill.
I once owned a 41 Cadillac that had louvers in front of the radiator controlled by a thermostat. Cold they closed, opened when warm.

Re: lets see your winter front grill.
From my point of view thermostats are a must have item for all year driving.. I think 160's are ok but 180's are better.. When you calculate the wind chill factor on a cold winter day the coolant in the radiator can freeze. I have had that happen, could not figure out why the heater was blowing cold air. It took me awhile to wake up to what was going on. I have a silver colored cloth type of winter front for my '36 that clips onto the grille. Pretty handy, it can be folded up and stored in the trunk..

Re: lets see your winter front grill.
Always thought that "wind chill factor" applies to the effects on human skin.
