Re: hinge pin removal
I ground down the screw of a c clamp and use a socket on top to drive out the pins

Re: hinge pin removal
If the tool does not work drill them out. If you drill 1/4 in from each direction they will punch out with a hand punch

Re: hinge pin removal
A couple of months ago I installed a hinge mount outside rear view mirror. Like everything else I've done it was a bigger job than you'd expect. After a little hammering it was obvious the old pin had worn a ridge that I couldn't overcome with brut force. Had to remove the door to drill each end enough the separate the hinge. Drilled out the remaining old pin using my drill press.

Mitch, wish I had known your advise when I took my 29 door hinges off. I drilled all the way and it was a pain.

Re: hinge pin removal
I usually drill the door hinge pins out using a 7/32 " drill bit. When I am just about two thirds of through, I will put a drift punch in the hole and the old pin after a few taps will usually fall out onto the floor. In order to drill up close to the door, I use my right angle electric 1/4" drill. After this tedious drilling operation, I have always been able to go back to using the stock diameter door hing pins again.

Re: hinge pin removal
I don't think Ford ever planned on those pins coming loose, just take your time as it will mess up.

Re: hinge pin removal
I fought for hours removing hinge pins. I took a break went to tractor supply store, bought a air hammer, ground down one of the tools that came with it, smaller than the door pin.
Pulled the trigger and the hinge pin jumped out so high and fast I lost it. Best 20$ I ever spent! |

Re: hinge pin removal
I just added a right side mirror. I inserted a punch from the bottom and out it came. Lucky I guess.

Re: hinge pin removal
For a month I gave mine a shot of Kroil every time I passed by the car. Then I used the Bob Drake hinge pin removal tool (picture) I got on E-bay. With some squeaking noise they came out.
