They sell dual filiment sockets so you have both.

I bought dual element sockets at local auto store, removed old and put in new. I did have to do a little modification to sockets(a little to big for hole)but they work great and you can't tell they have been changed unless signals on.

Good point, I was rewiring mine when I did it so it was easy but it would be simple to wire that.

Changed mine over to dual filiment and it works great. I hated those big lights used to be mounted on the fenders. No turn signals back in those days, especially on farm trucks.

In the avitar pickup there is a 9 or 10 wire directional switch. In this switch there are two sets of contacts that operate like how the brake lights are used for directionals. this switch operates the single element parking light as a directonal and retains the parking light function. It was in a box of parts that was in the truck. It had no identifing marking on it and I had to ohm it out to figure out how it worked. I'll post a picture of it when I get the truck out of the off site garage.
