Hello just got a 36 sedan and I'm new to the Ford game. I'm looking for information on how to lower the front and rear some without crazy modifications. Thanks for your input.

Welcome to the forum!

There are several ways to lower your car depending on how much time and effort you want to put in to get the desired look and handling you want. You might do some research on the H.A.M.B forum, there is a lot of good information from those that have lowered there cars.

1. Changing the tires sizes will lower the car without any suspension modifications. Tire size changes are also use with the suspension mods to help give the car a desired stance.

2. The traditional suspension mod method is to install a 4” dropped front axle that will yield about a 2” drop at the bumper. This requires you to remove the front axle and wishbone assembly. You will also need to drop the control arms on your spindles and convert to hydraulic brakes.

3. You could install reverse eye springs. This will give you about a 1” drop. You can use these springs in conjunction with the dropped axle for and additional drop.

4. You can remove some leafs from your springs. Be careful not to remove to many or the wrong leafs as it puts additional strain on the other leafs and can be a saftey issue.

5. You can buy lowering shackles and this will give you about 1 1/2” drop.
Check out

6. For the rear axle the easy options are reverse eye springs, lowering shackles and/or lowering blocks.

These are just some ideas for you to think about. There are other ways as well, but they are mostly major modifications. Each of these that I mentioned have some challenges in installing but can be done in your shop. I hope this helps you and I’m sure whatever way you go, it’s about what you like best. Have fun with you car!

Just to give you an idea. For my car I used a 4” dropped axle, (Previously converted to hydraulic brakes), used lowering shackles in the rear and used 550x16 front tires, 700x16 rear tires.

Awesome thanks guys the brakes seem to be fine for now . I will look into those leads I'm in so cal and need to check out the Ford shop in San dimas I'm in Chino so not far. I'm thinking that dropped front axle and reverse springs and the rear I'll see what's the best way . Maybe remove springs and those longer brackets .

Just one man's opinion:
Why do you want to lower this car? With the appearance of the car as it now is, lowered suspension may just look like its riding on old tired springs. Why not just drive it, enjoy it, as it was supposed to be?

Too me it's too high especially out back im thinking drop it and fill those wheelwells with some fat whitewall and keep patina look for now I keep telling my 13 year daughter that's it's going to be her high school ride. I'm sure she's going to want it once I'm done

Yes talk to Michael at The Ford Store. Dropped axle with mechanical brakes will be a challenge but not with hydraulic brakes. You might want to look into replacing the steering with a '37 - 40.

I ran a 4" dropped axle for a number of years in my 35 with mechanical brakes...can easily be done by heating and bending the mounting arm atop the perch bolt to enable the operating cross shaft to bolt up. And need to reshape the anti-rattlers on the radius rods to suit [easy].

Welcome, why don't you check out Iron Trap Garage on youtube, Matt recently had a tutorial on removing leaves from the front and rear springs to lower a '34 coupe he,s working on. He builds and restores tradional hotrods and also keeps some barn finds as is. He's the guy who used to do demo videos for eastwood co.

For what it's worth, I like the stance as it is. Mess with one thing and the can of worms is wide open. Just sayin'.
