Default 6V Generator regulator stamped 12V

I bought a 6V generator voltage regulator a couple years back from Mac's auto parts, and set it aside as a spare for future use. Now I need to use it and noticed that on the base of the Regulator is stamped "12V pos/neg" despite the bag it came in being labeled 6V. The only other labeling on the regulator is "Made in USA".

Anyone out there who's had experience with this?

I set up a test, hooking up the "generator" and "field" terminals in the car, but leaving the battery side detached. I read the generator produce 10.5 V and then gingerly hooking up the battery side measured about 9v. So it seems to really be a 12V regulator and not a modification of one to suit 6V.

This is irritating, as it is clear either the manufacturer or Mac's messed it up, and me living in Europe will make it difficult to sort out.

A mis-marked package is unfortunate but not a surprise at all. Is there an electric shop near you that can confirm what voltage it is?
If it's been so long Mac's won't let you exchange it, just buy the correct one from someone else and re-sell the (wrong) one you have. A 12v regulator should be fairly easy to sell. Even as a spare to another American car collector, it will save them any extra shipping cost from the US

A definite bummer -- they should have ESPECIALLY looked -- and double-checked before they sent it oversees.... You probably got it during the period they were selling out, moving, and now they are an Eckler's outfit....
So now, they REALLY don't care -- and all the older guys are GONE..............

If you need a quality 6 Volt Regulator, (51A10505 Fomoco #), E mail me....
