Default A Piece of My Family's Model A History.

I was doing some research the other day from The Seattle Times and ran across this Want Ad that was posted on Sept. 22 ,1929. My Great-Grandfather had passed away on Sept. 3, 1929. My Grandfather's name is in the Ad. taking care of the Estate. I thought that this was pretty cool to find.

Very neat find!! Model As have been in your bloodline since the earliest of days! Sounds like your Great Grandfather got the Fordor loaded out! I'm sorry to read that he did not get to enjoy it.

I did not know that bumpers were an accessory.

What suprised me was the dual wheelwells ,was this common for 29 Town Sedans .And what does a Karl Keen Trunk mean ,was it a high end Trunk for it's time. Maybe someone got a pic of one?

The front bumper and rear "fender guards" were, in fact, extra cost items... as was the fifth tire and tube (the fifth wheel was free as, presumably, was the air if you bought the fifth tire).

Ford also charged for gas in the tank and 5 quarts of oil.

Through the wonders of desktop publishing and an old typewriter font, I've put together a facsimile bill of sale for my late '31 Standard Tudor. Adding the taxes, "drive-out" charge, bumpers, fifth tire, and fluids to my period accessory motometer, clock, air filter, floor pads, pedal pads, hood clamp bumpers, driver's peep mirror and dealer-added cowl lamps the $495.00 advertised price becomes $637.50 as it sits today. I often post the invoice in the window. It's a great conversation starter.

By the way, D D Don: Congrats on a great piece of family history. Great to have documentary evidence of a dual sidemount Fordor. Wonder what color the six wheels were?

Would love to see that 'bill of sale' sounds very neat!
Thanks

The bumpers were extra cost, but you couldn't NOT get them. A mandatory option, if you will. Thet were shown as an additional line on the bill of sale.
Presumably a way of driving down the advertised price a bit?
