Default zinc in motor oils

Do any of the 15/40 or 20/50 0ils have zinc or should this be added to the oil?

Here is the result of a google search...

https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=189632

Add ZDDP if you are still unsure!

We add one blue bottle of STP at each oil change to get the ZDDP.

Use Walmart 20w-50 oil.

There is more than enough zinc in any modern oil for an A. After all, the oil that came with your A when it was new out the factory door, had no zinc in it!
I doubt that non-detergent oil has any zinc in it, and that is all some guys will allow in their A's!

The zinc is needed by high compression engines especially the push rods where there are heavy springs etc.etc.. I use Brad Penn 20-50 in my 67 327 300+ hp it has some work done to it but I don't need to go over it here. JMHO

JDacota yes they do but you will pay a price for it as I do in my 327 300 + hp. Yes the zinc was lowered in some popular oils but still have enough for some small engines. I use Brad Penn 20 - 50. im my Corvette. JMHO

I don’t know what Year oil started having zinc add to it but I do know by the fifty’s it had it and I also know the EPA had it removed a few years ago.
Ask any cam grinder they will tell you that cam failures have happened more know than ever.
We may not be running the valve spring pressure that race motors have but we still have metal to metal that can wear over time without the zinc.
So for a couple dollars is it worth trying to prove someone wrong.

Most of my car friends that have high performance engines use Brad Penn Motor Oil good stuff.

Not needed in a Model A. Use a bottle of ZDDP for about 9 bucks at oil change time with your favorite brand of oil if you want. You can buy it thru the parts vendors.

A's have steel cams, most late model V8's have cast iron cams, a critical difference. Also A's have very little valve spring pressure compared to OHV, high revving engines.

Thanks Mike. I tried to edit my post, but it's not buying it. Just Google "ford vintage" and search "zinc". Some useful info there as well as on this site.
