In need of a good front axle
I've been looking for a good straight axle that hasn't been abused with a torch.
I've found several bent ones and one with the area for the perch destroyed by a torch. I also tried to find a shop that can straighten a bent axle and no dice. If anyone knows of a good one available please let me know how I can arrange to get it. Thank you Al [email protected] |

Give Steve a call at Berts Model A in Denver. He will put it in the mail for you.

Re: In need of a good front axle
Hi, I have on that was restored and then never driven. I removed it from a car that was in the process of restoration and put in a dropped axle. The perch bolts have been removed and are in good shape as well if you need them. Not sure on how to ship it to you perhaps greyhound.

Re: In need of a good front axle
Try finding a dealer who sells and services heavy trucks. They can easily straighten your axle. I had one done at a large Ford truck dealer in St. Louis and they were happy to help. It was probably 8 years ago and it was $100. Good luck

I have never said it was easy. There were more then 4 million axles made by Ford, every car got one and they were all the same. In any reasonably populated area there are like at least 10 A's in any 10 mile radius. Most never see the light of day. Often each guy has a stash of parts. Get out and talk to people and you can find the part. When I have needed parts I have taken the time to understand what makes a good used part. Packed up my notes, micrometer, and dial caliper and went searching. I have paid premium prices for NOS parts when I have found them and once in a while made great deals on good used parts that were in tolerance. If you want a crappy car just throw it together with whatever. Your comments are unwarranted and unproductive. If you have a problem with what I say then provide facts to prove what I am saying is wrong. Otherwise, go away and stop bothering people who try to bring facts to the table. People like you have already chased away a lot of knowledgeable A guys. I am pretty close to be being the next person leaving. |

Re: In need of a good front axle
I have a couple good ones that have been checked for straightness and they are. I will be at the Moultrie Flea market this Friday and Saturday I can bring one. $100. There is a place in Jacksonville that can straighten them.

Re: In need of a good front axle
Several years ago I had one straightened at an automotive machine shop. They bent it beyond straight and it returned to straight after.

Re: In need of a good front axle
Thanks everyone.
I did locate two and have had them tweaked by a club member. Now just paint and install. This is a great site - thanks |
