1935 V8 fan clearance.
Hi All,
Fitted the genny and fan belt today, man the fan blade runs close to everything. I have about 1/4in clearance between the top of the radiator and the blades and the blades clear the top radiator hoses by only about 3/16in. It seems too close for comfort and I am wondering if the belt I have is too long. Can anyone give me the correct length of the belt please. Comments welcome. Many thanks Viv. |

What size belt do you have now? Is there enough adjustment to use a smaller belt? Is it possible that it has the wrong diameter fan? Mark

Re: 1935 V8 fan clearance.
Are we talking about a 1935 car with a 1935-ish 21-stud engine, radiator and fan?
The belt from suppliers is wrong. NAPA B-54 is the one. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please as I can't find the photo right now... I picked up three, one for me and two for a couple of buddies at the store in Auburn IN last summer. The pic is a new cardboard, and a belt that came off a friends car but has another 20K miles left in it, he thought.

If so take your belt to an industrial bearing type place that sells belts and ask them for the next one down. They can put the belt on a measuring device to get the size. It might be that your belt is worn and a new one of the same size will move the generator enough to make a difference. |
