Default Painting around windshield 1950 Ford

Hi All,
I have been told that there is a technique or a product that will raise the windshield and rear window gasket so that you can paint under them thus letting paint flow under the gasket rather than right up to the edge of the gasket. How are folks doing that?
Thanks, Steve

Many-Many years ago, there was a company that sold a roll of plastic
string, very similar to a plastic string sold today for use in some of the
weed-whip machines.

You would lift the outer rubber gasket and try to stuff the plastic string
under the gasket a little ways, all the way around the gasket, so when
painting the vehicle, paint would get under the gasket a little ways.

Most of the time, the rubber gasket was too hard to make this work.

When glue-in auto glass came to be, there was No more need for the
plastic string when painting a vehicle. That string disappeared untill
some of the weed-whips used a similar string.

I use to stuff 1/4 inch nylon rope under the rubber. If there is SS trim that has to be removed, this worked great and gave room to clean and sand for adhesion. Don’t use cotton rope , only nylon so it doesn’t get lint in your paint

I like 3/16 nylon cord.. Raise the rubber and carefully insert the cord with a plastic or wooden stick. mask the rubber all the way to the edge.
Of course if the rubber is old and brittle the cord trick won't work.
