Kinmont brakes
So, I thought I’d share some pics of kinmont brakes that I’m installing on a 32 highboy. I’d heard of them but never been near a set till now. Can’t wait to get hem on. It’s not my car but still a thrill to be involved with the installation.
Unfortunately, I can’t figure out how to load pics on here. Sorry |

Re: Kinmont brakes
They may be too big. Can you reduce their size?

Re: Kinmont brakes
I had a chance to buy a set of four 25 years ago for $750.00. What scared me off was the fact that one backing plate was missing the wheel cylinder.

Re: Kinmont brakes
Why are they so expensive? Is it just the rarity of them?

Re: Kinmont brakes
Great article! I’ll put a set on my AV8, right after I finish the SCOT blower install, oh and after the big lotto win

Re: Kinmont brakes
They didn't stop a car as well as the lincoln brakes did.
Kinmont went on to be the chosen brakes on the Tucker automobiles, but we all saw the Tucker movie and know that they only made 50 cars. even more rare are the Ausco Lambert brakes on the 1949-1954 Crown Imperials (limos) which use the same type of technology.

Re: Kinmont brakes
Kinda cool looking, but sure seems like taking something simple and making it difficult.

Re: Kinmont brakes
Here is a pic of a friend's car that had Kinmont's in the early 50's.
I drove the car once. I would say those brakes didn't stop any better than most brakes in use at that time but the IMPRESSIVE thing about them was, after a 40 lap main event, they were not red hot like all others. |
