So is there a difference between a "fuseable link" and a "fuse" Synchro? I'd just assumed a "fuseable link" was an old fashioned term for a fuse.

Yo' John Buckley, in FAR AWAY U.K,
It's like, "Six of one & half a dozen of another"
MAIN thing is to have protection from SHORTS, whether it be a fusible link, a fuse, or a circuit breaker

A fusible link is considered a short (about 3 to 6") piece of wire built into the wiring harness, made to burn in half in case of a short. When this happens you need to cut it out and splice in a new fusible link. I would prefer a fuse that can simply be pushed into place.

So are we saying here that the fuse mount assembly which sets on the starter is good or bad?

They can be good or bad. They are good unless the rivets are loose, resulting in loose connections.

Good, I found it to be the best option.
But that's just me.

Maybe it's an original Lucas idea?

I remember having to replace burned out fusible links in the 70's and 80's, but haven't dealt with one for many years. I don't know if anyone still uses them, but Mitch likely knows.

None that i know of - they use whats called a Maxi fuse now - GM stuff its hiding under the battery tray.

My 2002 blazer has a maxi fuse but the 95 s10 has fuseable links as does the 80 chevette.
