Change of Direction 351 or 390 in the 58?
I had a 460/C6 given to me but then the "gift" came with strings so I backed out. Not to mention that by the time I get Crites mounts, headers and other changes I'm going to be right at a grand into the engine conversion.
So.... Anyone know if the motor mounts from a 64 Galaxie with a 289 will work to bolt the 351W into a 58? My thinking is the 223 was still an option engine in 64 (last year in the cars) so it would stand to reason that so long as the frame mounts stayed the same it should make the engine a bolt in. My crazy thinking would also mean that 390 mounts from the same car should make a 390 a bolt in as well...right? I had been planning the 351 route till I found a 68 Galaxie in a local wrecking yard with a 390/C6 combo that was recently hit hard on the right side...which means it was running when wrecked. I can get that engine/tranny combo for less then $300 so I am VERY tempted to go that route. But now I start thinking (dangerous) and as a 390 is an FE block, then the 58 352 mounts should also make the 390 a bolt in...right? |

the 390 is a bolt in using 58 v8 mounts.any v8 mount from 54 to 58 will work.these mounts as you know have 2 studs in 59 they changed to 1.

The Galaxy mounts will let it sit too low with a 289-302-351, late model Mustang takes care of that issue here are pictures and part numbers to show you what you need to do: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/m...-mounts.41498/ If you do decide to use the FE 390 get 1958-59 352-390 full size car mounts. The mounts in the link will also work with a 351C.

I have trouble finding the factory specs on any Ford spring, so I just measure the coil diameter and OD of the spring. There are 2 Moog springs that may be close, 8000 and 8002. I wound up using their Aerostar springs in my '59.
